November Reflections

Today, I made the final song 8 bar composition. I copied it from my book so that it will become the final draft for my composition. I also have to start about the lyrics for the song, because I need to add to it soon. The song is called the Violin Melody because that's where I play it.

Today was the singing Indonesian Patriotic Song assessment. I sang Indonesia Pusaka with my partner Dio. I think I sang the first low pitches good because I can reach the notes however when it reaches the high parts, I still needed to practice on the singing. Overall, I think I could use more practice but I did well.

Today, we made the reflection for Indonesia Pusaka song. It included what we thought we did great, what needs to be improve and what I liked about the performance. I also tried to give a shot at the lyrics and make the first few bars, adding them with simple lyrics that I think will match with the song.

Today we learn about Major and minor scales. It was confusing at first but after Mr Herry teach us again, I finally understood. There is also relative minor and circle of five, which determines the pattern of the minor. We also learn about positiongning of sharps and flats on the scales.

I made the chord song using the keys C, G, Am and F. We also saw a youtube video of a band called Axis of Awesome who covers pop hits using only the four chords. It made me realize that making music wasn't as hard as I thought and I can probably improve my own composition using these 4 scales.

Today we did another revision of the chord progression. We were taught again about the chord song and made final edits to it. In addition to that, I saw some of my friends do their rehearsal performance from each instrument class in the front.

We moved to the instrument faster because we still need to perfect our composition and the assessments are getting close. We still saw around 2 people perform for their own composition in front of the class. At instrument class, I practiced my composition to make sure it is perfect.

Today, it was my turn to do the performance of my composition in front of the whole class. According to me, I still need a lot of improving because my composition sounded very bad to the class. I was also nervous, which made me even more confused about performing in front of people. I have to practice performing to people if I want a good grade.

Today I saw the woodwind class perform their composition. We were also given the MDW booklet and we have to submit it by tommorow. Mr Herry also taught us what the next topic is, which is how music affects our lives. I will need to practice my composition tommorow so I can do good during the exam week.

Video 10

This is the last video of my practice from the others below. This one is me practicing the G Major again but with a faster tempo. I used a faster tempo because I want to test my ability if I can do it. It turns out to be very hard, because we still need to put the fingers in the correct position. What makes it harder is the speed of the scale. This is definitely an important test/part of my practice because it allows me to know how my skills are.

Here, I am playing a basic song called Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I felt like I needed to play this because it can help me correct some of my positioning of the finger. By practicing the basics, we can move on advanced things and even do a better performance in playing the advanced song. I thought my performance here was good because it is a simple song. It is required for me to do the basic practice because without it, we wouldn't have the harder skill.

In this video, I am playing the Happy Farmer. This song is very cheerful and is hard to play. There are some points, like the drastic changes from one string to the other which makes it hard. I need to correct the tempo for the half a notes and improve my G finger positioning if I want to make the song good to listen. The song has some fast notes and good practice for tempo.

Video 7

This is me playing the Long Long Ago variation. This song is a bit harder because it is in book 2 but I like playing it. I still need to improve in the correct timing and also using the G String. I have to practice a lot more until I can perfect the tone and melody of this song. This song is harder then all of the other songs and it challenges me to correct my tempo, timing and finger placement.

Video 6

Here, you can see me perform the song Minuet 3. It was made by bach and played in Andantino tempo. It is also on G Major, which is a bit harder then most of the song I played before, which is in A Major. I like the song but it is very hard to put the position of the 4th finger correctly. The variation is v=faster in tempo and has more notes because it is a variation. I like this better because it is more challenging then the other songs.

I am perfroming the song called Andantino in this video. It is a bit harder then the others but still quite basic. I had a little trouble playing the long bows and changes in string so I need to practice more. Overall, I still need to do more practice to improve my skill. This song is similar to Allegretto but is a bit harder. The difficult part for me was to do the timing but the rest was pretty simple.

This is me performing the song Allegretto. I played this song to practice the half notes and finger positioning after changing strings. It is very important to practice because the sound matters when the fingers are placed in the wrong position. The song has very short strokes and is focused on the 1st 2nd and 3rd finger, which is good because I need to improve these parts.

Video 3

In this video I am performing the song Perpertual Motion. I chose to perform this song because it helps practice your strokes as it has 2 strokes for each note. Even though it is easy, it is good for me to keep practicing and make it good. The song itself is pretty basic because it involves basic finger positioning and isn't that hard to play. It definitely is good for testing stroking ability.

In this video, I am performing the song Allegro for my music performance. I chose this song because it has a nice melody and it isn't too hard to play. I could improve in making the 3rd finger position on the E string so that it is placed in the correct position. The song is easy and is played with 2 strings, A and E. This song is easy to play but is quite complex compared to the early songs like Lightly Row.

This is me doing the G Major exercise with 4 strokes for each string. I still need to correct the placement of some fingers so that they will make a better sound. I did 2 octaves to better practice my positioning. It is very important to make sure that the finger positioning of each string is correct because it will determine the positioning for other songs.

Reflection For 12th October 2011

Today, I saw some of my friends performed their composition. I thought that Cindy's and Jesslyn's was good and had a nice melody. I need to practice in making songs so that it will be not too sad but have a happy melody. In instrument class, Mr Sadrakh give us the A Major for our songs. I need to imrpove the melody and make it better.

Reflection For 11th October 2011

Today, I made my final 16 bar composition to perform for my assessment. I used the AA'BA form to make it easier and simpler. I still need to improve on making the melody. An example of improvement I need is to start with do, mi or sol instead of other notes. Next, I will ask Mr Sadrakh to help me convert it into A Major, so it will be easier to play in violin.

Reflection For 5th October 2011

Today, I did the 16 bar song on the music book. We also learned of the A A' B A format that could make writing the songs easier for us. We also learn a little bit more about scale, like harmonic. These are important because we are going to use them to make our composition. Next, I am going to practice making the song for my violin.

Reflection For 4th October 2011

Today, I saw my woodwind friends do their performance. They were Richard, Sake, Ihsan, Agi Anti and Gita. We also practiced making a 16 bar song for our performance. In instrument class, we discussed what kind of song we are going to make. Next, I will try to complete the 16 bar song of my own at home.

Reflection For 28th September 2011

Today, I finally did my classical performance assessment. I thought I did pretty good but I was nervous so I made some mistakes on the tempo. I also miss some finger positionings. However, I did good on the 4th finger of the E string and I manage to put it in the correct position. We also submitted our reflection so far so that Mr Herry can check it. Next week, we are going to start our lesson as usual.

Reflection For 27th September 2011

Today, our music class did our final rehearsal. We were told to grade some of our friends performance. First the piano played their classical song. Some of the songs were good but some students still make simple mistakes. After piano is guitar. The guitar students played well but didn't play the complete song. After guitar is violin and my turn. I played Gavotte and Mr Herry said I did good. I still need to fix a little thou. Last is woodwind. Some of them just started playing the instrument so it wasn't that good. Next, I am going to prepare my reflection for tommorow.

Reflection For 21st September 2011

Today I looked at some of my friends do their performance of classical music practice. Today, 4 students performed, one from each instrument. They were Ihsan, Dzaka, Dio and Callista. Today, we also get our scores for the notation assessments. I got 50 out of 50 and it makes me feel proud. Next I will continue studying on the topic and also practice my classical music performance so that I will be ready for next week.

Reflection For 20th September 2011

Today, I saw some of my friends from the other instruments do their performance. I saw Richard play Amazing Grace, Michelle play Allegro, Sarah play the piano and Jesslyn play the guitar. We also revised the Major 7 for the G Major, A Major and D Major. Next, I am going to practice my violin playing the classical song for my performance next week. I will practice number 15 from the Suzuki book tonight so that my performance will be good and I can get a good score.

Reflection For 14th September 2011

Today, I did my exam on the Major 7th and Dominant 7th. I also did the Inversions and put the sharps and flats. I think I did pretty well but I was the last to finish because I didn't have enough time to do it. Next, I am going to study more so that I can do it better then before. I also practiced number 15 of the Suxuki Violin Book titled Minuet 3 to do for my assessment performance. I need to practice my third finger positioning so that it will be better. Next, I am going to work on my music booklet for the Jazz Music topic.

Reflection For 13th September 2011

Today, I got taught about the major 7 and the dominant 7th. We practiced on these so that we will be ready for our exams tommorow. The topic is almost the same with this but with more. We also saw some of our friends perform their classical music song that will be used in their assessment. The people that performed were Ivy (Violin), Kevin (Woodwind), Cindy(Guitar) and Astri (Piano). Next, I am going to pick my own classical to perform and also study for my exam in music tommorow.

Reflection for 16th August 2011

Today I saw groups 1 and 2 do their Western Music History presentation. I learned about different genres and history of classical, rock, pop, jazz and country. Next, I am going to improve my presentation so that I can get a good grade. I am going to make cue cards for next week's presentation of me and my group. We also practiced the song 17 Agustus 1945 for the assembly on Thursday. I hope that I can memorize the lyrics and sing it well.

Reflection for 9th August 2011

Today, I did my singing assessment in front of my class. I sang the song Secrets by OneRepublic. I could have improved my singing if I wasn't nervous. I also need to improve my pitch and also my timing. Next I have to practice more so that I can have a good score for my assessment. I learned that singing isn't so easy and some artists have good voices. I need to constantly practice if I want to have a good voice.
